Things to do
Marrick Safari offers
you many ways in which you could explore the African
Country, with 3000 hectares of unspoiled veldt teaming
with wildlife.
When hiking one is not restricted to
roads; follow the game paths like the explorers of long
ago did when they were discovering the interior of Africa.
Arrange for a guided 4x4 game drive, breakfast in the
bush or sundowners with spectacular views. Night drives
offer an exiting world of nocturnal animals.
Marrick Safari would like to offer you
the full experience of nature in their natural surroundings.
There is a wide variety of bird life, including birds
endemic to the area.
Kimberley, although synonymous with
the Big Hole is also famous for its
large population of flamingo, which
congregate at the Campers Dam, where
a new breeding island has been established. Numbers vary
between 3000 - 30000 all year round, and one is assured
of seeing hundreds of flamingo on every visit to the
dam.
Marrick Safari is proud to have a pair
of breeding Blue Crane returning annually.
Available on request is a bird list compiled by our
local ornithologist Mark Anderson.
Marrick Safari is only 10 Km from Kimberley,
the historic diamond city of South Africa. Guided tours
can be arranged. A visit to the Kimberley Mine
Museum, situated on the edge of the Big Hole,
the largest man-made excavation in the world is a "gem" not
to miss. Other interesting tours can include: a
ghost tour, an underground tour of a working diamond
mine, a tour of the Battle fields and lots lots
more.
A special mention should also be made of
the William Humphreys Art Gallery, which
presently concentrates on collecting South African works
of art and rock engravings. The Duggan Cronin
Art Gallery also offers an outstanding collection
of some 8 000 photographs of the indigenous people of
Southern Africa taken between 1919 and 1939 by Alfred
Duggan-Cronin, an Irish mine manager who also happened
to be an excellent photographer.
The Wildebeest Kuil Rock Art
site, which is the only one of its kind in
the world is about 30min drive from Marrick Safari,
and is located next to a koppie (hill) which has literally
hundreds of well preserved Bushman rock paintings It
also has a lovely tea garden to quench your thirst.
The Magersfontein Battlefield Museum and
the McGregor Museum should also form
part of your itinerary.
