South Africa born in 1994 with the first democratic elections
is today considered as a serious role player
in the international community.
Considered as the 'gateway to Africa' South Africa plays an important part in
the affairs of Africa as a continent and in the African Union, with South Africa
hosting the inauguration of the African Union in Durban in 2002.
Our government comprises
a constitutional multi-party, three-tier (local,
provincial, national) democracy. There are
nine provinces.
South Africa
boasts a population of 44.8 million, made up of a
mulititude of cultures with eleven official
languages and a literacy rate of 93%
Its growing
and stable economy make it the perfect place for foreign
investment, and with its current exchange rate
many foreigners have not been able to resist

beautiful and aesthetic locations. Key
economic sectors include mining services, transport,
energy,
manufacturing, tourism and agriculture. Value
Added Tax (VAT) is currently levied at 14%. Tourists
may apply for tax refunds on purchases over R250
on leaving the country.

infrastructure rank highly by international standards, allowing
for safe and comfortable travelling and touring
to all the beautiful locations our country has
to offer.
Our world-class telecommunications infrastructure is ranked 23rd in telecommunications
development worldwide. Internet access is widely available and there are three
main mobile (cellular) networks.
Top quality
health care is available throughout the country,
although rather basic in the rural areas. Medical
/ Travel insurance is advised though if you want
access to the best healthcare.
There are only 12 countries in the world that supply tap water that is fit to drink, and South Africa is one of them. Our tap water quality is about third best overall in the world.
