COTTAGE is situated on our family farm Clearwater
in the garden of the main farmhouse. We are 10 minutes
drive inland from Port Edward beach and shops. It is
a working farm Monday to Friday, growing bananas, macadamias
and guavas.
The cottage looks out onto a large indigenous garden
with ocean view, swimming pool (unprotected) and braai
area. The garden is very rich in bird life.
Accommodation consists of two bedrooms, one with queen
size bed, the other with two single beds. There is a
sleeper couch in the sitting room, also a TV with a DSTV decoder (Bring your own DSTV card) and DVD
facilities. The bathroom has a shower/toilet (no bath).
All rooms lead onto an enclosed stoep.
Things to do
Guests are welcome to explore the 110 hectare farm
where there are marked walking and mountain bike trails
through the plantations, indigenous bush, passed dams
and streams and through open grassland with wonderful
wildflower displays in Spring. The trails also lead
off the farm through the adjoining coffee farm where
you can stop for breakfast or lunch, and down to the
renowned Red Desert. Guided tours are also available
and Mountain Bikes may be hired.
The Umtamvuna Viewing Deck is at the end of a boardwalk
which leads from Clearwater into the adjoining Umtamvuna
Nature Reserve. This is your window onto the Wild Coast.
The spectacular views across the Umtamvuna River Gorge
are particularly special at sundown. Enjoy bass fishing
in one of the farm dams.
The Umtamvuna Nature Reserve has several well-marked
hiking trails to suit all levels of fitness and has
access from Clearwater. The trails pass through a wide
variety of scenery with forests, waterfalls, streams,
river, grasslands and rocky outcrops. There is nothing
better than climbing up out of the gorge, near the end
of the Fish Eagle Trail, and standing under the waterfall
to cool off.
It is one of the most botanically rich reserves in
South Africa with more rare trees than any other! It
has wide variety of birds (240 species) and wild life.
